In St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the ceremonial opening of the First Session of the Tenth Parliament wrapped up a short time ago at the Assembly Chamber in Kingstown. The ceremony featured the swearing-in of Members of Parliament, as well as the election of a Speaker and Deputy Speaker. Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves and Opposition Leader Arnhim Eustace took their oaths of allegiance. Meanwhile, a High Court judge has rejected an application from Ben Exeter, the opposition New Democratic Party’s candidate for Central Leeward in the December 9 general election, seeking access to certain electoral documents. Exeter asked the court to order Supervisor of Elections Sylvia Findlay to produce all ballot boxes from Central Leeward, and hand them over to the Registrar of the High Court. But in a written judgement handed down Monday, the Justice says he does not consider that Exeter has shown any reasonable grounds to grant the application.
