Ten killed in Istanbul suicide attack near popular mosque

Ten people have been killed in a suicide bomb attack in Istanbul, Turkey, and the suspect is believed to be with the Islamic State terror group. Officials say a foreigner was responsible for the explosion in a tourist district of Istanbul near the iconic Blue Mosque. Of the ten that died, at least eight of them were tourists from Germany. Fifteen others were also wounded, including six Germans. Turkey’s President believed that his country is a top target for terrorist groups in the region, and the Deputy Prime Minister said the perpetrator was a Syrian national born in 1988, who is also an ISIS member. However, the suspect was not on Turkey’s watch-list and he had likely crossed the border from Syria. Turkey has become more active in their efforts against ISIS, allowing US warplanes to use one of its military bases to carry out missions.
