England confirmed their 3-2 Ashes series triumph at the Oval, despite falling to Australia in the fifth and final Test by an innings and 46 runs. Following on their first innings score of 149 all out, England were bowled out for 286, with scores from captain Alastair Cook 85 and wicketkeeper Jos Buttler 42. Australia bowler Peter Siddle picked up 4/35 from 24.4 overs; Nathan Lyon and Mitchell Marsh took 2 wickets apiece. Steve Smith of Australia was declared player of the match, and both teams have a player of the series: Australia’s Chris Rogers and England’s Joe Root.
