GEORGE LUCAS ENGAGED TO MELLODY HOBSON
The creator of Star Wars George Lucas decided it was finally time to get engaged to his longtime girlfriend Mellody Hobson.
Hobson, 43, is the chairman of DreamWorks Animation and also heads Chicago-based investment management firm Ariel Investments Llc. and is the chairman of Ariel Mutual Funds.
The Ariel banner of companies is reportedly amongst the largest African-American-owned money management and mutual fund companies in the United States.
Hobson is a regular financial contributor to ABC’s Good Morning American and has also hosted a show on ABC called Unbroke: What You Need to Know About Money.
George Lucas, 68, is best known for his creation of the Star Wars and Indiana Jones film franchises. Lucas made headlines in October after selling LucasFilm, the company that holds the rights to Star Wars and Indiana Jones to Disney for $4.05 billion dollars. Lucas then donated the money he received from the sale to an education foundation.
“As I start a new chapter in my life, it is gratifying that I have the opportunity to devote more time and resources to philanthropy,” Lucas has said.
No wedding date has been set as of yet.
