WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D TRUMPS OSCAR CONTENDERS
Big budget movies, Django Unchained and Les Miserables were in for a big surprise this week at the box office.
Those movies were beat out by horror flick Texas Chainsaw 3D as it took number one at the box office earning $23 million. One of the major reasons for the film’s success was that it was R&B singer Trey Songz’ first movie roles as one in three moviegoers cited his appearance as the reason to see the movie.
Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained came in second place this weekend with $20 million dollars bringing its total gross to $106.3 million.
The prequel to The Lord of The Rings, The Hobbit continued it’s successful box office run coming in third. The adaptation of the book made $17.5 million this weekend bringing its total to $263.8 million.
The film adaptation of the play, Les Miserables starring Anne Hathaway, Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe dropped to the fourth spot this week making $16.1 million. The movie has made $103.6 million since its Christmas Day release.
