Rihanna Accused Of Stealing Former Artist’s Wrap Hairstyle
Sunday night at the American Music Awards, singer Rihanna sported a doobie wrap as she was honored with the ceremonies’ first ever Icon award; presented by her mother. If you’re not familiar with a doobie wrap, it’s a custom predominantly done by African American women to keep their processed hair in tact during the night.
Controversy over the bedtime wrap sprung Monday morning when a former manager of a Bronx hip-hop artist, named Patwa, wrote an open letter informing the public about her artists’ use of the style.
In the letter it states that Patwa met with several industry executives, including Roc Nation, whom all denied the Bronx rapper, claiming the her look was “too ghetto”. The manager mentions that in 2011 at a Roc Nation event, they met Rihanna whom was fascinated by Patwa’s jewel pinned wrap and inquired on where she got it done.
Open letter or not, Rihanna is not the type to back down from a style whether she’s the first or last to attempt it. However, since the Bajan beauty made it cool, we can expect that the bedtime wrap won’t be combed out for a while.
G98.7 FM listeners, do you think the doobie wrap should leave the bedroom?
