Cheerios Releases Another Interracial Commercial For Super Bowl
Despite racist comments online in May, Cheerios has decided to bring back an interracial family to star in its Super Bowl ad. The same fictional family was featured in an ad last year that received ugly comments, followed by a flood of support for the family made up of a black dad, white mom and their young daughter.
In the 30-second ad, the father uses individual Cheerios to represent each member of the family, explaining to his young daughter that, “Pretty soon, you’re going to have a baby brother.”
The little girl then smiles and adds another Cheerio to the little pile, “And, a puppy,” she negotiates. The ad ends with the mom looking anxious at that development.
The Super Bowl cost to air an ad for 30 seconds is around $4 million this year. The new Cheerios ad is set to air during the first unscheduled time out during the game Sunday.
