One of the stars of “Diff’rent Strokes”, Conrad Bain died of natural causes on Monday. Bain was 89.
His daughter said that Bain had “been unconscious for a couple of days, but he was comfortable. He was really a lot like his character on ‘Diff’rent Strokes’. He had the warmth and stability. He was also a very intellectual person.”
Bain played Phillip Drummond on “Diff’rent Strokes” for the shows entire run, before that he played Dr. Arthur Harmon, they neighbor guy on “Maude”.
“Diff’rent Strokes” star Todd Bridges was upset to hear of Bain’s death. The two had been close and had spoken on the phone weeks before his death.
Bridges shared that Bain’s was a more of a father to him than his actual father. Conrad Bain played Bridges adopted father on the show.
Bridges said, “I cried all day. I can’t even cry anymore… this is probably one of the most heart-wrenching days I’ve had in a long time. That Conrad’s not going to be around anymore to talk to. Whenever I needed advice, I’d call Conrad.”
“He was a really good man… he treated me better than my own father treated me. When I had my son, I took him to Conrad’s house and he loved him, played chess with him, called him his grandson. He just really knew how to take care of people.”
