Buju Banton Former Attorney Dead
Chokwe Lumumba, an attorney who represented Buju Banton in 2012, is dead.
Prior to being elected as mayor of Jackson, Mississippi last year, Lumumba was a prominent lawyer and human rights activist.
According to reports, Chokwe Lumumba died on Tuesday at the St. Dominic Hospital. The cause of his death was not released, he was 66.
He played an active role in Buju Banton’s appeal for his drug-trafficking sentence. Lumumba is best known for representing rap legend Tupac Shakur and members of the Black Panther Party.
Stepping up to Buju’s case is Harvard Law Professor Charles Ogletree, whom is a former teacher for Michelle and Barack Obama. Ogletree also represented Tupac in a sexual assault case.
