ATHLETE GETS A SECOND CHANCE AT HIS DREAM
Brian Banks was a high school student who saw his dreams of playing in the NFL die after being accused and convicted of raping a girl he “made out” with in a high school stairway. Despite his accuser changing her story several times, and his own innocence, Banks plead “No Contest” to the charges on the advise of his lawyer who told him he was “.. a big black teenager and no jury would believe anything [he] said.” Banks served five years and another five outside on probation. Eventually his accuser found him and made him a friend on facebook. After praying on it, he decided this might actually be a way to clear his name. He began secretly recording their conversations including her admitting that the rape charge was completely made up. When the judge heard the tapes Brian was exonerated.
He now has a second chance at the NFL as several teams have invited him to try out
The Seattle Seahawks, Kansas City Chiefs, Washington Redskins, and the Miami Dolphins have all expressed interest. Brian says he was not ever bitter even before his name was cleared due to his faith in God.
