The First Artificial Ice Rink In North America

 
Back in 1879, the first artificial ice rink in North America was installed at Madison Square Gardens.
 
Hundreds of masked skaters performed on ice to the music of Gilmore’s Serenade Band. By the 1920s many skating clubs were staging carnivals and the tradition spread to Chicago, Hershey, and Seattle in the early 1930’s.
