Peace Corps Established

Back in 1961, President John F. Kennedy signed an executive order establishing the Peace Corps.

Volunteers of the Peace Corps travel abroad to tackle the most pressing needs of people around the world.

Their mission is to promote world peace and friendship by means of helping people of interested countries in meeting their need for trained men and women, while promoting a better understanding of Americans on the part of the peoples served, and also fostering a better understanding of other peoples on the part of Americans.
