Nov. 29, 1961 – Man Vs. Chimp

One small step for man, one very quick trip around the world for a chimp…

On this day in 1961, Enos the chimp became the first chimp to be launched into space from Cape Canaveral he conducted his mission in the Mercury-Atlas 5 spacecraft.

Enos went through vigorous training at the University of Kentucky and Holloman Air Force Base. The chimp endured 1,250 hours of psycho motor training and aircraft flights training for his mission.

Unfortunately Enos died one year later on November 4, 1962.
