On This Day: November 4, 2008

On this day in 2008, then Senator Barack Obama of Illinois defeats Senator John McCain of Arizona to become the 44th U.S. president, and the first African American elected to the White House.
Obama (who was 47 at the time) was inaugurated the following year on January 20, 2009 and on November 6, 2012, he defeated Republican challenger Mitt Romney to win a second term in the White House.
