On this day in 1987, reggae pioneer Peter Tosh who helped reggae gain world-wide acceptance, had just returned to his home in Jamaica when he was confronted by three-man gang who were demanding money.
After Tosh’s attempts to convince the intruders that he didn’t have any money in his home he was shot and killed by chief thug, Dennis “Leppo” Lobban, a man whom the singer had previously befriended and tried to help find work after a long jail sentence.
Leppo surrendered to the authorities and was sentenced to death, but was switched to life in prison in 1995.
