The Toronto Police Service kicked off Crime Stoppers Month at its College Street headquarters today. Police Chief Mark Saunders was joined by Mayor John Tory to mark the 32nd year of the Crime Stoppers program, an anonymous tip line used to help police solve crimes. The police chief hailed the program’s success so far, and encouraged those who may be afraid to report a crime to come forward. There have been more than 1,300 Crime Stoppers programs worldwide since its inception in 1984. Also since that time, more than 124,000 tips have led to 10,000 arrests.
