Toronto Public Works puts off private garbage decision until 2016

Toronto’s Public Works Committee has decided to defer a debate on private garbage collection until next year. Public Works Committee chair Jaye Robinson cited labour talks for the halt in discussion. Councillor Robinson and Mayor John Tory were concerned about a staff report last week that warned against privatized waste collection east of Yonge Street. The concerns are related to the unionized workers who lost a contract to collect west of Yonge. The privately-owned Green For Life has been collecting garbage from Yonge Street to the Humber River since 2012.
