Toronto will not make 2024 Olympic bid, says Mayor TorySeptember 15, 2015
Toronto will not be making a bid to host the 2024 Summer Olympics. Mayor John Tory made the announcement this morning, after months of speculation. Tory made the final decision after a lengthy discussion with the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) on Sunday. In a city hall press conference this morning, the mayor says he isn’t ruling out the Olympics completely, but the city should instead consider future investments. Tory has appointed an advisory group to look into hosting a major international event in the future. Meanwhile, the COC released a statement saying they respect Tory’s decision, maintaining that Toronto can and should host the Olympics at some point in time.
