Comedian Tracy Morgan remains in critical condition but is reported to be ‘more responsive’ following a late Friday night/early Saturday morning crash that left Morgan and 2 other companions in critical condition, and lead to the death of Morgan’s long time writer and friend 63 year-old James McNair, who succumbed to his injuries sustained in the crash.
“…He has been more responsive today, which is an incredibly encouraging sign,” said rep Lewis Kay in a Sunday statement. “He sustained a number of injuries including a broken leg, a broken femur, a broken nose and several broken ribs. He had surgery earlier today on his leg. We expect him to remain in the hospital for several weeks. His family is tremendously overwhelmed and appreciative of the outpouring of love and support from his fans.”
The tractor-trailer driver who hit Morgan’s limo, 35-year-old Wal-Mart driver Kevin Roper, was charged with one count of death by auto and four counts of assault by auto for the late Friday night/early Saturday morning crash. Reports allege that Roper supposedly fell asleep at the wheel.
Morgan’s limo driver Tyrone Gale, who survived the crash, recalled hearing Morgan screaming for help and what he remembered immediately following the crash. “I just remember the impact. … We didn’t know which way was up, which way was down. I don’t know if we flipped several times or one time,” Gale said. “I saw the condition of everybody and I knew it would just make it worse if I tried to pull them up and out of the vehicle.”
According to ABCNews.com, Wal-Mart CEO Bill Simon expressed sorrow over the accident in in a statement – “This is a tragedy and we are profoundly sorry that one of our trucks was involved,” Simon said. “The facts are continuing to unfold. If it’s determined that our truck caused the accident, Wal-Mart will take full responsibility.”
