Canadians across the country are in mourning with the loss of Canadian legend Gord Downie.
The Tragically Hip frontman died last night after a lengthy battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer. He was 53. Fans nationally and internationally are pouring in condolences to the Downie family, even Prime Minister Justine Trudeau was emotionally overwhelmed with the loss of this beloved icon.
Gordon Edgar Downie was born on Feb. 6, 1964 in Amherstview, Ont. The Tragically Hip played their first show in November 1984 at Queen’s University, 3 years later they released their first EP, then their debut album, Up to Here, in 1989.
He leaves behind four children, three siblings, his mother, Lorna, the mother of his children, Laura Leigh Usher, his bandmates—Robert Baker, Johnny Fay, Paul Langlois, Gord Sinclair.
