South African comedian Trevor Noah will be the new host of the Daily Show, this was announced early Monday morning by The New York Times. In February, Jon Stewart announced that he would be stepping down from hosting the “Daily Show” after being the host for the past 15 years! Since his announcement, there has been speculations has to who will take over the Comedy Central show.
Noah is one of the newest correspondents on the Daily Show and first appeared in December 2014. Since then, he has appeared three segments with Jon Stewart. Noah released a statement shortly after the announcement and said “You don’t believe it for the first few hours. You need a stiff drink, and then unfortunately you’re in a place where you can’t really get alcohol.”
Apart from appearing on “The Daily Show”, Trevor is also known in his native South Africa for hosting his own late-night talk show, a few radio programs and the South Africa Music Awards.
