T&T Islamic group leader says ISIS runaways should return home

Umar Abdullah, the head of the Islamic Front of Trinidad and Tobago, says nationals fighting with ISIS should be allowed to return to the country freely. Abdullah says the Government should create fertile soil for these men and their families to return from Syria and other battlegrounds. However, former National Security Minister Gary Griffith says Abdullah’s suggestion cannot be entertained. Among the cases of locals returning from ISIS strongholds is one last November, in which the former People’s Partnership administration had to assist the David family – a mother, three stepdaughters and two preteen sons – to return from Turkey. This was after the family was taken to join ISIS by the mother’s husband, a man from central Trinidad described as a militant.
