The United States’ women’s 4x100m relay team has won the right to re-run their heat after Allyson Felix dropped the baton during the second exchange in heat 2 earlier this morning.

The US quartet was facing a sensational disqualification, however USA Track and Field appealed after it emerged a Brazilian runner had bumped Felix as she approached the changeover.

After studying the footage of the incident, the race referee agreed and so the team will race against themselves and will be judged based on clocked time.
