US$145,000 seized from vessel off St. Thomas, USVI

The US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency says its Air and Marine Operations agents seized 145,000 US dollars from a vessel operated by three American citizens near St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands. Officials report that during a maritime patrol, a St. Thomas-based marine crew located a vessel with three men traversing around the waters of the US Virgin Islands. In a statement, the CBP said all subjects were released pending further investigation. A US federal statute allows CBP officers and agents to inspect and search all people and goods entering or leaving United States territory. As part of the inspection process, officers are required to look for possible terrorist weapons, controlled substances and a variety of other prohibited items.
