The US Justice Department is suing German car maker Volkswagen over the emissions test scandal. The car giant admitted that they fitted 11 million vehicles, globally, with a so-called cheat device, to pass emission tests. Now, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) filed a lawsuit alleging nearly 600 thousand diesel engine vehicles had illegal defeat devices installed that impair their emission control systems and cause emissions to exceed EPA’s standard, resulting in harmful air pollution.” The carmaker is also facing separate criminal charges and dozens of private class-action lawsuits filed by Volkswagen owners.
