WHO declares Guinea to be Ebola-free
Guinea has been declared free of Ebola by the World Health Organization (WHO), two years after the epidemic began there. Dr. Bruce Aylward, the head of the WHO Ebola Response. made the announcement today in Geneva. The WHO congratulated the government and people of Guinea for showing extraordinary leadership in fighting the epidemic. Guineans are expected to celebrate the landmark with concerts and fireworks. Ebola has killed more than 2,500 people in the country, and another 9,000 in Sierra Leone and Liberia.
