England end their miserable Cricket World Cup campaign on a high note, defeating Afghanistan by 9 wickets via Duckworth/Lewis in Sydney. The Afghans played a soggy innings with 111/7 from a reduced 36.2 overs. Barbados-born fast bowler Chris Jordan was the man of the match for the Englishmen; he took 2/13 from 6.2 overs, and Ravi Bopara took 2/31 from 8 overs. Thanks to the rain, England’s target was reduced to 101, and so they made it count with 101/1 from 18.1 overs, with Ian Bell on 52 and James Taylor on 8. Alex Hales was dismissed for 37.
