Lahiru Thirimanne and wicket keeper Kumar Sangakkara ensured a win for Sri Lanka, who thumped England by 9 wickets over in Wellington, New Zealand. England were 309/6 from 50 overs; Joe Root made 121, and Ian Bell made 49. On the Sri Lankan side, an unbroken 2nd wicket partnership of 212 was made between Thirimanne on 139, and Sangakkara on 117. Tillakaratne Dilshan’s 44 added to their total of 312/1 from 47.2 overs. Sangakkara was named the man of the match his efforts.
