Boxing Match Promoter Walks Away From A Million Dollars
Celebrity boxing promoter Damon Feldman is cancelling the fight between George Zimmerman, the acquitted killer of unarmed teen Trayvon Martin, and rapper DMX.
On Saturday Feldman announced via Twitter that he was done with the Zimmerman boxing match and that the rewards from the “payday” would not be worth it. He added, “ I made the right decision I could of made big $$$ but I would rather be happy.”
During a Rolling Stone interview, Feldman admitted that using the term “celebrity” for an acquitted murderer was inappropriate. “I looked into the eyes of my son and daughter today and couldn’t imagine someone killing them and getting off scot-free. It just really hurt.”
A day earlier Feldman told Philadelphia Magazine “I’m not quitting this,” he said. “People want me to quit. I would never do that. This is the opportunity of a lifetime. It’s entertainment, man.”
Entertainment…I think people would be looking at this like revenge.
Although DMX was pumped up to “beat the living f*** out of” the former neighborhood watchmen, the hot head rapper did not officially sign any contracts that would finalize the fight, scheduled to take place March 15 at an undisclosed location. During a press conference on Tuesday Feldman will give a full explanation and a “final decision”.
A petition on Change.org to stop the match has over 100,000 signatures and a WhiteHouse.gov petition has nearly 28,000.
