England have selected two Test debutants ahead of the 2-match series against New Zealand starting next week. Yorkshire batsman Adam Lyth will be captain Alastair Cook’s opening partner, replacing Jonathan Trott, who retired from international duty. Also on board is Durham fast bowler Mark Wood. Lyth and Wood were part of the England squad in their recent West Indies tour, but they didn’t actually play there. That could change here when they join captain Cook and the 12-man squad, which includes wicketkeeper Jos Buttler, Gary Ballance, Ian Bell, Joe Root, Moeen Ali, Ben Stokes, Chris Jordan, Stuart Broad, and Jimmy Anderson. England will host New Zealand in the first Test starting May 21 at Lord’s.
