The grand opening of the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation was held today in Winnipeg. The centre is based at the University of Manitoba and serves as a permanent home for archives related to Canada’s residential school system curated by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC). The aim is to gain more insight into the conditions at the residential schools and the long-term effects on survivors. The centre’s opening ceremonies will last two days, and will feature a series of workshops to better educate the public about residential schools, and to continue the ongoing process of reconciliation.
