Root, Stokes lead England’s challenge against New Zealand in Lord’s Test

Joe Root and Ben Stokes led the charge for England in style, in the opening day of the first Test against New Zealand at Lord’s. England were in danger at 30/4 before Root and Stokes built up a 5th wicket partnership of 161; Root made 98 and Stokes added 92. At close of play on day one, the hosts were 354/7 in the first innings; wicket keeper Jos Buttler made 67, and Moeen Ali is unbeaten on 49. Bowling for the Kiwis, Matt Henry took 3/93 from 24 overs, and Trent Boult took 2/70 from 24 overs.
