A Toronto police officer has been charged with sexual assault in connection with an incident that allegedly took place in September of last year.
The Special Investigations Unit, the SIU, says the officer encountered a 27-year-old woman near Wellington Street and Blue Jays way at around 1 a.m. on Sept. 24 and offered to drive her to her residence.
The SIU alleges that at some point during that drive the officer sexually assaulted the woman.
In a news release issued Wednesday, the SIU said they have reasonable grounds to believe the officer committed the criminal offence of sexual assault.
Sergeant Christopher Heard is expected to appear in court April 14.
